Following on the status of the funding for the Basic Education Employment Initiative, advocacy campaign Youth Capital wrote to the Acting Director General of the Department of Employment and Labour (DEL) and the Commissioner of the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) on the disbursement of funding to the Basic Education Employment Initiative. Since the initial email sent on 16 August, DEL nor UIF haven’t confirmed the status of the funding.

Youth Capital is calling for the release of the funds as a provision of the 2024 Budget Speech where Minister Enoch Godongwana announced the extension of R7.4 billion for the Presidential Employment Initiative in the medium-term. Later in March, it was communicated with Youth Capital that the funds for the PES would come from the UIF.’ It’s now the end of August and details haven’t been shared.
