Youth Capital’s Learning and Policy Manager, Mario Meyer, spoke to Shafiq Mortin from Voice of the Cape about Youth Capital’s latest study into the Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI).
Public programmes have the potential to help plug the youth unemployment gap, but also contribute to much-needed social outcomes like improving learning outcomes in the education system.
Mario Meyer, Youth Capital
Youth Capital partnered with ORT SA CAPE and Youth@work, two Implementing Partners of YES, to carry out research to understand the impact of South Africa’s largest public employment programme. Almost 3000 young people participated in the online survey. This report highlights important considerations with regard to the design and delivery of public employment programmes like the BEEI. These considerations should be taken into account with respect to the implementation of such programmes, including the potential second phase of the BEEI.
