Youth in South Africa are one of the groups bearing the brunt of the many socio-economic issues that the country faces. The pandemic has exacerbated the challenges faced by young people – a sharp rise in youth unemployment, the impact of lockdown on the unequal education system have financial and mental health consequences.
Youth Capital’s Project Lead Kristal Duncan-William joined the founder of Asinakuthula Collective, Literary scholar writer, researcher, and teacher at the University of Pretoria, Dr. Athambile Masola in a roundtable discussion with Refiloe Mpakanyane on 702. Both panellists underlined the importance of including young people in decisions that affect their lives.
Kristal also underlined the need for the government to partner with organisations that work with youth and ensure they are aligned in hosting meaningful and action-oriented conversations.
